This year I brought along my pal Doug Peterson (as seen on this web site). In years past, he flew his RV-6 on these backcountry trips, but the RV was sold to finance the new RV-10 project http://www.rvator.com . Since he was planeless, I took pity on him and brought him along.
The wildlife at Schafer (8U2) was the highlight this year. We had a doe in camp the whole time we were there. She followed us around and would plop herself down and relax as we sat by the fire. Very strange.
Additionally, Doug had his very first bear encounter. We came upon a juvenile black bear about 300 yds. from camp, while hiking. We heard Momma bear up the hill, but fortunately, we got out of there before she saw us.

This was our camp mascot Wingtip. She appeared with a herd, but decided to stay around
camp for a few days after the herd moved on. I think she liked us.
After a short rain, clouds start to form on the hill east of the runway.
A view of the runway from the approach end. You've got to watch that fence if you're
trying to land at the beginning of the runway.
