In the mid 90s, wolves were reintroduced into nearby Glacier National Park and also down south in Yellowstone Park.  These new residents did quite well for themselves and have managed to spread across much of Western Montana.

On our last visit here in '06, we were treated the sound of a wolf howling just outside our camp at night.  Having never heard wolves in this area in the previous 10 yrs., I was a bit skeptical and thought some of the local Forest Service kids were having a little fun with us.  When several other wolves up and down the valley joined in the songfest, I was convinced.

This year, just after dinner, the local wolf pack made its appearance at dusk, just after we finished dinner.  They appeared just across the runway from the campground.   The picture quality is not great due to the lack of light and the distance.
