In May of '01 and '02 I made the pilgrimage to the annual Rec.aviation* Fly-in at Pinckneyville (PJY), Illinois.
For non-geeks, rec.aviation* is the name of a set of Internet groups on Usenet. Folks drop in and chat, share aviation tips, and do a lot of hanger flying. Having been active in the groups since '96, it was great to meet the folks that I'd previously known only in text form.
The fly-in is hosted annually by John and Mary Johnson in their hangar at the Pinkneyville Airport. Why they would play host to a bunch of Internet pilots from around the country is beyond me, but they do a spectacular job and it is appreciated by all of us wandering pilots.

Pinckneyville '01
Just short of my destination I saw the Mighty Mississippi flooding its banks.
The ramp at P"ville was crowded with airplanes from all over. In the foreground is Neal Howard's
famous "Checkerbird". She may look funny, but she flies great!
John Johnson a.k.a. "Parking John" prepares to direct traffic during the afternoon rush.
